"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." -- Mark Twain

As the Happiness Warrior, I believe that all of us have our own unique abilities to change our destiny and create the lives that we desire and dream about. We do this by creating the mindset necessary to believe in our innate abilities to make good decisions and use our intention to set our own path to create the future that we envision for ourselves.

Studies show that 90% of us believe that our lives are part of some sort of cosmic “plan”, that our fate is predetermined and that we have no control over our future. I believe that this holds us back from achieving what we want out of life and creates unnecessary conflict and unhappiness in our lives. With the belief that life is pre-planned, it becomes easier not to do the work and instead let fate control our destiny.

I believe that we can change this by realizing that we are all products of our own creation and fate is not some arbitrary thing, but something we realize by action. With this mindset we can take control of our destiny, take action, and set our goals to for creating the lives we know we deserve but until now have only dreamed about.

When we believe that life is ruled by a predestined outcome, we set ourselves up for a cycle of self-created negative emotions, unhappiness, and inaction. People who believe this way seldom move forward in life with much happiness and believe that their lives are ruled by luck or chance. This mindset only increases feelings of frustration, low self-esteem, disappointment, hopelessness, and unhappiness. We can begin to change this by understanding that we all have the innate power to control our future. We can build our self-esteem by changing our thoughts in the present to create a stronger belief in our innate abilities and skills. By learning this lesson, we can begin to live life on our own terms without feeling the need to hold back or be concerned by the judgement of others. The alternative is to live life by chance as many do and drift through along without ever really knowing who we are and what we want. Believing that our lives are entirely ruled by fate rarely leads to success or happiness, but instead creates a lifetime of dependence, disappointment, and fear. Once we learn belief system to create our own reality our lives will change and become happier, more productive, and full of gratitude.

The best way to begin to understand how to create your own destiny is to start by asking yourself a few questions:

  1. Who am I and do I like what I see?

  2. Who do I want to be?

  3. What do I want to do with my life?

  4. What are my dreams and aspirations?

  5. What do I want to accomplish, legacy, value to society?

  6. What do I need to do to get there?

Once we can honestly answer these questions, we can begin to develop a stronger more purposeful mindset and begin living life ruled by our intention and our own creation.

Putting Theory to Practice

"Winners make a habit of manufacturing their own positive expectations in advance of the event." -- Brian Tracy

Everyone’s path is different, but I believe each of can create a unique strategy that works for each of us to shape our destiny by:

  1. Being realistic in our dreams and know the limits of our current abilities. By being pragmatic we can develop stages to reach our goals by using our best skills and abilities. One of the most important parts of this journey is discovering ourselves.

  2. Picture the future and take actions needed to work towards it. Never be afraid to share your dreams with others and provide inspiration.

  3. Taking ownership of everything in our lives, accepting the things that we are responsible for. When we learn the value of forgiving ourselves, we can understand that our experiences are what create our valuable knowledge and wisdom.

  4. Focusing our primary belief in ourselves, our goals, and our visions. Accept constructive criticism and shut out external judgements. No one else knows what you are capable of.

  5. Developing a mantra. For example, whenever I feel put down or unfairly judged I say to myself “don’t underestimate me!” which I know will provide me with the motivation needed to be my best.

  6. Following the law of attraction!! Like-minded people are enlightening and provide invaluable inspiration.

  7. Understanding that goals should be cumulative. With this mindset the next step will always clearly present itself as soon as each goal is met. The Law of Quantum physics helps to make this more understandable with the theory that everything we want is manifested in our vision and action towards our goals. We create with our words and actions.

  8. Considering the tools available, new resources, new avenues for creativity and learn to use them effectively.

  9. Being respectfully being bold in our thoughts, words, and actions. Timidity is never celebrated in our culture and bold acts can be corrected. Bravery is admired and more respect is earned or giving it our best effort. Don’t be a victim of fear.

  10. Pushing past limits and accepting that pain teach us to be stronger and more resilient.

  11. Never settling for anything less than your dreams!

The main reason most people fall short of their own expectations is through poor planning and execution. Strategies are created but nothing is done to make them manifest. This is further exacerbated by self-created negative emotions, indecisiveness, and lack of understanding, and experience in the satisfaction that comes from understanding the importance of self-discipline.

We learn from failures and disappointments to show us the difference between what’s most important in our lives. We learn to place more emphasis on higher level goals that demand more from us and provide more value. This is the way to mature and gain wisdom to guide us in our long-term passionate endeavors. This reduces the anxiety that comes from impatience and we learn that the harder path is more productive and meaningful

Set easy to meet expectations for others which will guarantee that we can be happier and have more clarity and direction in or own lives. I think of this as strategy rather than a negativity. When we expect nothing from others or external events, our mindset is prepared for resilience in the toughest situations. This helps us to stay at our best with the understanding that everything we do is connected and respect from others is measured. I used this strategy often in 2020 when the pandemic became a motivating factor and made a vow to do everything in my life from them on at a higher level. This way I was able to use crisis as an opportunity to take a hard look at myself and improve on every level possible.

Know that every failure, hardship, mistake, and annoyance in your is usually caused by external circumstances and know that these external forces are out of our control. This is how we can challenge ourselves to focus entirely on what we can control — our decisions, actions, and reactions.

When it comes down to it, I believe we possess full control of our lives and destiny. With this mindset we can live by what we can do for ourselves and not be dependent on others. We can harness the power of intentional action and the get the most out of our lives. This is how to create a more powerful and fulfilling life by coming to terms with and destroying our self-imposed weaknesses and past harmful behaviors. We have the power to create the magical life that we deserve.
