TIFFANY BYNOE

  • Written by Tom Estey

In 1994, I was at the top of the music game; however, suddenly things changed. I was starting a family! It was not an option for me, but to decide to focus my energies there. Yet, this transition did not stop music as a part of my life altogether. It just marked a period of absence of visibility from mainstream music. Because my roots were in Gospel, I fell back into that mode. Through this time in my life, I was being developed with substance and experience which helped me find my sound! I have always been the type of singer that sang what was in my heart, so everything I sang became limited to what was heartfelt and stemmed from growth in ministry. Lyrics invite the soul to engage. I recognized that songs could change a person’s life, and should never be taken for granted.

My very first CD did not reflect the music that was connected to my heart, instead the music stemmed from hip hop and dance music that my label wanted me to portray; genres that were not the ballads and soulful sounds that were the essence of my music. Now, I have the time to express where I have come from and who I really am as an artist, like Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole, Phyllis Hyman, and Diana Ross. I always looked up to these artists because of their class and style of music – music that had lyrics that came from experience and were heartfelt. Yet, those artists also presented music that crossed all genres. As I re-introduce myself to the world, when I sing, my music will arise from my soul. Every lyric will tell moments of an experience, a journey that was ever-changing, and as a result cannot be categorized one way - as one genre of music. Life flows that way, and listeners will be able to relate to this when they hear me sing.

The return of Tiffany Bynoe is marked with a mature sounds. The first single release was Free, a remake of Denise Williams that has drawn global attention, playing on radio stations in the adult contemporary and R&B market, currently 32 on the jazz charts, the reaction has been exciting! Sirus Radio has also had Free in rotation with more great reception. The second single released was All Things New which we leaked, and features a duet with my uncle, the legendary Howard Hewett of Shalamar. This single has received positive reviews. I will be traveling on tour with my Uncle Howard soon.

As I said, I choose to sing what’s in my heart, it is blind music based on  experience, so no matter who you are, what age you are, where you are from, my music is universal and will resonate with your heart. I invite the audience to listen to my life’s playlist... ME, Volume 1, a collection of 19 songs. I am very excited for you to listen to this collection, which is a soundtrack of a journey from a girl to a woman. This collection is a victory for those who never give up and continue to dream beyond the dream. You will enjoy the rhythms of classic R&B, Pop, Funk, with inspiration from world music coupled with strong messages of empowerment as one of the songs says “Don’t judge me, just love me.” I aspire that my life’s playlist will become yours too!
